This is the type of safe and enjoyable tale that many of you Christian parents are seeking after. We will say up front that we marked it as a Christian title primarily because the author was so intentional with their faith in the extra content that falls around the story. In the “About the author” we see that “Eli Quill is a young writer who uses her pen for the glory of God”. Awesome. Then in the preface acknowledgements we see her focus on encouraging early writers, saying “Books take prayer. If you want your work to glorify God, then give it to God, for he has a plan for you”. She also thanks God first and foremost. The story itself is more like the Green Ember series (and many allegories) where you don’t see Christianity directly woven in, but (unlike Green Ember) she has boldly included her faith in the content that surrounds it… and we applaud her for that.

As for the story, we start with an attention grabbing prologue and the solid story just goes on from there. We hear Delle’s mother tell a story where, “they are waiting for a certain warrior to rise and retake the kingdom once again… for when he comes, there shall be a dawn of peace, and that peace shall reign forevermore”. The story is sweet, good, action packed and approachable, a bit more family friendly than Green Ember. Really imaginative set of characters and setting. Just the right amount of “fantasy” type feel and action with a mysterious feel throughout as you try and understand what is going on.
