Concerning & Potentially Concerning Content
Because the book attempts to represent evil well, there is a good amount of content that may disturb younger or more sensitive readers. It is not 'graphic' in the way that many books are, but there are multiple perilous and potentially frightening scenes and creatures. There is a dragon and other other-worldly creatures, some of which chase the main character. In a more our-worldly scene, Owen is chased and eventually jumped by a bully. Later he imagines what could happen in a robbery. Knowing your child will be key here as this is certainly rewarding for those who can handle all of this.

Our Thoughts
This is a book that many readers will love. It is a great option in this genre. Unlike a lot of Christian allegory where you have to squint to make the connection to our faith, this book is much more direct in its themes and references. Good and evil are represented really well. The approach to the narration of the book is unique and enjoyable. This exciting and fast-paced book will be loved, by kiddos who can handle the content described above, by lovers of mystery, fantasy and an exciting quest that is based primarily in our world by an everyday child, making it something readers can really picture. Excellent resource to discuss the topic of spiritual warfare.
Plot SummaryNote: This information is typically from the publisher.
From the minds of Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry comes a thrilling, humorous, and action-packed fantasy series that pits ultimate evil against ultimate good. 'Nothing special' is the best way to describe Owen Reeder--at least that's what he's been told all his life. When a stranger visits his father's bookstore, Owen's ordinary life spirals out of control and right into a world he didn't even know existed. Owen believes the only gift he possesses is his ability to devour books, but he is about to be forced into a battle that will affect two worlds: His and the unknown world of the Lowlands. Read ReviewBlessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.
