Concerning & Potentially Concerning Content
As far as concerning content there is not much here. The biggest item is that the parents are certainly imperfect. While you may argue this is meant to show reality there are a few things in here that are not ever really shown in a negative light. Mom doesn’t always handle Nat’s mess-ups with the patience and grace we might hope for from a Christian parent (of course, we have all been there). At another point she tells Nat no about a friend coming over very firmly, but when Nat asks her to play with her, she makes a small noise of frustration and calls for the friend to come over (Mom is attempting to work from home while taking care of Nat and is frequently on the phone, while it seems Nat is supposed to just “do her thing”). There is another related unfortunate comment where Nat observes that Mom used to be a boss at her job, but now she works from home and mostly bosses Nat and Daddy around (meant to be funny, but certainly not a view of a Christian marriage we want to put forward). Nat does say “blah, blah, blah” when describing one of her mom’s calls, but this doesn’t come across as being intended to be disrespectful. — We should also mention that some of the wording may confuse really early readers. At times the author uses language to show Nat is young, which early readers won’t be used to. Small item, but something to be aware of.

Our Thoughts
This is a sweet first title in a series that includes cute illustrations for Christian families with young girls. It revolves around a set of attempts by the main character, Nat, to do something kind, each time ending in a pint-sized home disaster. This title is short, averaging just a few pages per chapter, and is written by the same author that created Winnie the Horse Gentler (see our previous reviews). — It does take a little while before you get to it, but as the book develops, we see some solid faith-centric content. At one point both parents pray together at the same time over Nat at bedtime (what a great idea!). Once when Nat prays, she specifically mentions Jesus. Nat and her friend wonder out loud about how God can love everyone. When she feels guilty at one point, she is pointed to God’s unconditional love. There is also a mention of going to Sunday School and Dad’s church shoes. When Nat marvels at the workings of an ant pile her mind immediately goes to their Creator. — This book also contains a nice friendship. Overall, a great start to what looks to be a solid series if you have a young girl in the intended audience range.

All a person's ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. The Lord works out everything to its proper end—even the wicked for a day of disaster.
