Concerning & Potentially Concerning Content
There is almost nothing here to worry about. There is one joke that gets carried along through much of the book where something gets referred to, a bit irreverently, as “softer than a baby angel’s legs”. Tavin doesn’t come across as meaning this irreverently, he takes it pretty literally, but it is a joke using something serious, which is unnecessary. The term “chest naked” is used as a southern, silly way to describe men who ended up on the “skins” side of a baseball game. One marriage is said to have “not worked out”. Terms like “big boned” are used several times to describe a few more heavy-set folks, but it is never used in a derogatory way. Note that this review only covers this book. We have not done any research into the other online content that centers around this character... although there was nothing in this book that would cause us to be concerned from an initial perspective

Our Thoughts
Looking for something a bit different? Something funny? Look no further. Our ongoing quest to review books from a Christian perspective have led us to notice something… it is really hard to find clean comedy books for kids… well, really for anyone. Today’s culture often associates comedy with pushing the boundaries morally. Not here. The best way we can describe this book is to imagine if ‘Mater’ from Cars or Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty wrote a book about a random block of time in their life… this is what you would get. This one is funny from the jump, using the normal spot for author endorsements to instead show quotes about the book from characters in Tavin’s life. These are funny comments like where his “Meamaw” calls the book her “new backup doorstop”. We should note that this book won’t be for everyone. We think many adults will find it very funny. At times we were literally laughing out loud. For kids it is probably targeted at middle school or high school kids looking for something silly and light that will bring a smile to their face and a dose of laughter. As far as spiritual content, the author’s bio mentions that he “believes people are very important creations of God and we are all looking for connection with God and each other”. There is a passing reference to God once and to David and Goliath.

When Tavin Dillard joins his buddies for small-town softball, incredible things happen. It’s a season of highs and lows for the fellas who start the season with no uniforms and no team name. One thing’s for sure: you’ll be laughing along with them. Whether you’re a longtime Tavin Dillard fan or this is your first encounter with him, you’re going to love Team Burger Shed.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.
