The big concern here in our eyes is the revelation that Mr. Frisby kept an elaborate secret from Mrs. Frisby. This is explained as something that he had been earlier sworn to secrecy on. Parents should explain that this is obviously not a practice for a loving husband and wife, just as it is important for children to be completely open and honest with their parents. There are a couple of references that refer to evolution that can be a conversation starter. Also, while not what we would call 'concerns' a couple of the Christian external reviews below point to interesting topics that can be discussed.

Our Thoughts
This is a great story for children. There is a strong family dynamic in the Frisby family. Bravery, sacrifice and kindness are held in a very positive light. There is a strong female main character who is a wonderful mother. One consideration on audience. The middle of this book consists of a long story that explains the backstory of the Rats of Nihm. This is very interesting, but can take a bit of concentration. This may limit how young of a child can enjoy this book. Fortunately, there are a couple of breaks in the backstory telling, jumping to the present for a bit of action, that help in this regard.

Mrs. Frisby, a widowed mouse with four small children, is faced with a terrible problem. She must move her family to their summer quarters immediately, or face almost certain death. But her youngest son, Timothy, lies ill with pneumonia and must not be moved. Fortunately, she encounters the rats of NIMH, an extraordinary breed of highly intelligent creatures, who come up with a brilliant solution to her dilemma. And Mrs. Frisby in turn renders them a great service.
