There are a few things to know for determining if your child is ready for this series. Everything below is done in a careful way to avoid it being too much for kids, but it is still important to know. It mentions the mother died when the main character was 8. Later, his father is killed in front of him. The main characters are chased by this swarm of insect-like creatures that devour everything in their sight, including a town they attempt to warn. They are later captured into slavery and treated badly. The main character is whipped after rescuing someone else, and the wounds are described in light detail. There are also a type of beasts in the desert that come up in a perilous situation. It is probably a good idea to discuss the complexities that may come with taking in someone who is in need off of the streets and that, especially when young children are in the house, God will often lead us to an Christ-based organization that can better handle the situation.

Our Thoughts
This is an exciting intro to this series that has some feel of the Pilgrim’s Progress. This is Christian allegory for children, but with a great bonus that the author added a section at the end to explain the allegory. What a great idea! There are also discussion questions for each chapter so you can really dig in with your child. The main character is good and kind and has an awesome relationship with his Dad, who teaches him to put the King first in his life. Dad rescues a young girl from a desperate situation. Several virtues are emphasized. There is plenty of adventure to keep readers engaged for kiddos who are ready, given what we point out in the section above.
Plot SummaryNote: This information is typically from the publisher.
Sixteen-year-old Leinad thought he was a common farmer's son, nothing more - but one tragic event initiates a world of revelation. Leinad is thrust into adversity and danger - for the Dark Knight and his vicious Shadow Warriors will stop at nothing to thwart the King's plan to restore the kingdom. Includes discussion questions and is a great resource for ages 8 to 12.

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
