Concerning & Potentially Concerning Content
There are consistent appearances of “potty humor” often shown visually in the comic strip the book appears over. A bird poops on someone’s head, someone poops on the police chief’s floor, a character gets poop on their hand and gives a high five to someone else, multiple references to peeing. There are a lot of less-than-ideal words here, especially from the rude bad guy, such as “stupid”, “jerk”, “who cares”, “who asked you”, “dumb”, “duh”, “raging inferno of death”. There are a few especially disappointing instances. On the cover it shows a male dog character sniffing the rear end of a female dog with a caption that says, “romance”. Graphic shows bad guys pants pulled down, in undergarments, and one is a girl. To show an example of people having their intelligence stolen, a woman/girl says “I went boom boom in my panties”. There are also mentions of a cigar, a ghost and a bad guy named, “Dr. Scum”. The final point to bring up is when the author randomly includes a note from a teacher that is supposed to be an issue slip from school for creating this comic during class. The intended point seems to be to laugh at teachers who would dare to stifle creativity and interrupt the really important things in life, like creating comics when you are supposed to be doing your school assignments. Finally, realize that this book does advertise for Captain Underpants, another series by this author, so make sure to review before letting your child read that one.

Our Thoughts
There is no doubt there is humor in this book and the main character is a good guy who foils the villains’ evil plans. The big consideration with this book for Christian parents is how much “potty humor” they want to bring into your home. Not only is it frequent in this book, but it also adds a graphical element to the type of words and jokes referenced above. Many would love to take a series like this one and use it to try and engage reluctant readers, especially boys. It is certainly a simple read with lots of pictures. However, parents should carefully consider the associated cost as well. There are many books in this series and what feels like an endless stream of titles in similar ones, each with a common type of “humor”. If this is not something you want to welcome into your home and inevitably from your children’s mouths, then it is almost certainly best to avoid this line of titles all together. If you do decide to let your child read this, maybe warning an older child ahead of time that they must handle it maturely, it will be important to check each title in the series carefully in case there is an evolving “boldness” in this content.

This review is at a high-level over the series. Helps get some context of at least one more book and some of the concerning content.
Keep in mind this is at a high level so it is not intending to give all of the concerning content. Also, the notes at the end on the good side of the series feel a bit overstated (that is certainly the case of the publisher summary above).
Read ReviewThis is not to pick on this particular site/review, but here is an example of why Christian parents need Christian sources of their reviews. Take a look at the concerning content above and then scan this quick review and their “GET IT” rating. Even those who choose to let their children read this title/series will see there is certainly more to consider than what is presented here.
Read ReviewAll a person's ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. The Lord works out everything to its proper end—even the wicked for a day of disaster.
