Concerning & Potentially Concerning Content

There is almost nothing here from a concerning content standpoint. The book does introduce the concept of a “diary” to young kiddos, which many parents may want to avoid. There is a bit of mild negative behavior by the dog (the main character) that would be inappropriate for a child. For example, he has issues with a cat character that leads to rude faces, comments and chasing. Even this comes across pretty lightly. At one point he pretends to pee on a nightstand to get attention. He is rude to this cat throughout most of the book. Luck is mentioned. Note: There are quite a few rainbows shown. Fortunately, these are actual (original) rainbows as God intended them and not indicating anything from our secular culture.

Our Thoughts

This is an illustrated early chapter book we came across when trying to find better graphic novel type options for Christian kiddos. While this and the series it starts is targeted for a younger audience and not an actual graphic novel it does represent an option for some kiddos that may scratch a similar itch. The illustrations are excellent and the story is cute and sweet. The author even includes fun questions at the end that help with comprehension. As a bonus there is a nice positive focus on inventing. We have this as a Recommended option for Christian parents.

Plot SummaryNote: This information is typically from the publisher.Use with caution

This series is part of Scholastic's early chapter book line, Branches, aimed at newly independent readers. With easy-to-read text, high-interest content, fast-paced plots, and illustrations on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and stamina. Branches books help readers grow! Baron von Bubbles, a.k.a "Bub," is the self-proclaimed cutest pug on the planet! Things he loves: fashion, peanut butter, and his human, Bella. Things he does NOT love: Nutz the squirrel, baths, and the rain. When Bella enters the Inventor Challenge, Bub helps her craft the best project ever. But what happens when Nutz gets on Bub's nerves and makes him ruin Bella's project? If Bub wants to make it up to Bella, he'll have to stand up to Nutz -- and the rain -- once and for all. With full-color artwork throughout, this funny and charming diary-format early chapter book is perfect for anyone who believes a furry pal is the best kind of friend.

Scripture Reflection

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

— 2 Timothy 3:14-17
