Our Thoughts
They say to not judge a book by its cover. Well, with this one we were reminded to also not judge a book by its format. While we expected solid, safe content from Focus on the Family, there was a depth and boldness to the content here that we were very pleasantly surprised by. Behind this light comic format is a solid guide and encouragement for children on the topic of evangelism… something we could all use additional focus on. Before the main story gets going this short comic jumps right in with an introduction for the young reader to introduce the evangelistic. This theme is the main focus all throughout the story and then it ends with a very focused, intentional conclusion to the young reader. One of our favorite things is that the authors were direct and bold, not shying away from giving children real encouragement in challenging situations. In the introduction they mention the fact that some kids will even be called to witness to their parents (something that would have been very easy to skip over). In the conclusion they mention details about sharing at school, even including a student’s legal rights in our country. The authors state their intent with the actual comic-based story before getting going, “We’re here to explain the process (of evangelism) through the story of a boy, a girl and a bunch of aliens”. They go on, again being very intentional, to make sure to explain that the aliens in the story represent unreached people and people groups in our world. Throughout the whole comic story, which parallels portions of the book of Acts, to weave in and show applicable verses from the Scriptures. The main character Kelvin shares his faith so naturally and provides a great example to follow, while the other main character acts to represent a kid who was not living out her faith, but comes to be impacted by realizing her shortcomings and turning to walk the narrow path faithfully, becoming an encouragement and friend to Kelvin. There is a lot of additional wisdom you will see in this book. It is very realistic in showing kids that many will reject the greatest news of all time… but also that fruit will come from faithful sharing. In the conclusion, there are steps for after a friend or someone you know is saved, including getting them plugged in to a local church. There are also 1-2 page focus topics (just the right length for the audience) on things like common types of responses to expect when evangelizing, handling rejection, knowing your rights at school (including the right to form student-led prayer/Bible groups), using your testimony, etc. Overall this is just an excellent, excellent resource for a young kiddo on what is one of the most important topics they will ever hear. HIGHLY Recommended. One last note. Did you know Focus on the Family encourages a “Bring your Bible to School Day” on the first Thursday in October each year? How cool is that?!
Plot SummaryNote: This information is typically from the publisher.
This popular graphic novel (originally featured in Clubhouse magazine) entertains kids while helping them understand the importance of sharing their faith with others. Through this exciting and engaging story, kids will gain the confidence and skills they need to tell others about the love of Jesus. The story is a sci-fi parallel to the book of Acts and helps kids answer these common questions: "I'm a good person, why do I need God?", "I believe in a God, why do I need Jesus?" Kelvin has lived his entire life in space on a mining platform near the star Gliese 433, where his parents are engineers. During an outbreak of Centpowkian flu, ships from nearby colonies descend on Kelvin's home--bringing Laney and an alien named Nixblatt. Kelvin protects Nixblatt, helps him heal from an injury, and tells him about Jesus. Nixblatt then invites Kelvin and Laney to come to his world to tell his people about Jesus.

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
— Galatians 5:16-18
