Bethany the Ballet Fairy – Rainbow Magic
VERDICT: Prayerfully Consider

Concerning & Potentially Concerning Content
This book (and series) has a bit more focus on magic than even the average fairy/fairytale story. The main villain has goblin henchmen. There are pictures of these that the very youngest (or most sensitive) readers may find a bit disturbing. It is worth flipping through the short book to make sure before starting. The most questionable part of the book for parents to consider is when a goblin who most would assume to be a male puts on a ballet outfit and begins to dance. While this does not seem to be one of the growing instances of promoting non-biblical agendas around identity and sexuality, many parents may decide that this is better just to avoid. The two main characters also deceive their mom and dad once so they can go off and investigate the fairies they saw.

Our Thoughts
This is a book where if you feel like it is a good match for your child based on the illustration on the cover you probably won’t be disappointed. It is short, light and “sweet”. This book is also almost overly cautious when it comes to violence (e.g., mentioning the goblin wasn’t hurt when an item falls on him). The real question for all parents for this particular installment of this series is whether or not the main concern listed above is one they would rather not put in front of their child. Note that while this is the first book in the Dance Fairies sub-series there are many other books in the larger Rainbow Magic series that come before this one.

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'
