A Young Person's Guide to Knowing God
VERDICT: HIGHLY Recommended

Concerning & Potentially Concerning Content
There is almost nothing to be concerned about here. A few of the stories have parts that might be slightly intense for the youngest of readers, but this is refreshingly clean. While most stories are completely safe, there are occasional examples like when a historical story is used and invaders are said to have been “plundering and murdering”. All in all though, very little to be concerned about.

Our Thoughts
This is a title from one of our favorite authors (check out reviews of Treasures of the Snow, Rainbow Garden, and others). This book, however, is different from her other titles we have reviewed up to this point. It is set up to be an excellent devotion for a child or to read as a family, delivering truth through a series of short stories. The title is actually organized around the Apostle’s Creed, taking individual points and crafting stories around it. We find out in the prologue that this is actually a collection of a lifetime of stories told by the writer compiled together. After each story is a set of verse, questions and notes to really help drive the key point home and make sure young readers don’t miss the life-changing truth. To make things even better, the stories are really good! We see stories on radical forgiveness, grace, redemptions/salvation, the removal of separation from God the Father through Jesus, God coming Himself as the solution to our problem, God’s glory in Jesus and many, many more. This is theology delivered in small, easy to understand, really entertaining stories. This is one we HIGHLY Recommend for your family.
Plot SummaryNote: This information is typically from the publisher.
This book was written by Patricia St John especially for all young people who want to learn about God and get to know Him for themselves. Every chapter deals with a basic Christian belief and tackles some of the most searching questions the author was asked, including: Who is God and what is he like? Why is there so much suffering in the world? Wasn't I born a Christian? Does Jesus care about me? Can I really know God? Through enjoyable real-life stories, prayers and thought-provoking questions, the reader will discover what Christians believe and what friendship with Jesus can mean in their lives.

How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
— Psalm 119:9-11
